It’s a bone broth and mass muffin making day! Finally getting around to this elk that’s been saved in my freezer for far too long. #scotsirishroots #useallthethings #powertoolsinthekitchen #withwomanwithcoffeefamilytime
Found myself oddly motivated today to clean out the fridge. The milk was past expiry, and the memory that I used to make cheese pre-midwifery school popped into my brain. So I did. I’d forgotten how easy it is. #withwomanwithcoffeefamilytime #homesteadinginthecity
Before midwifery school, I was an excellent cook. I made good meals, fancy desserts, fermented and preserved year round, brewed beer and baked cookies at least once a week with my kids. The act of making or providing things to nourish others is my love language, so when I mix herbs, craft something, or cook a meal - that’s me loving on you. I’ve been unable to do much in the way of meals for the past few years, my ferments quit and there never seems to be enough time to make cookies. My herbs are connected with infrequently. I’ve gotten used to existing in this shell of myself - an excellent student who feels terrible in every other aspect of life. While this semester has been emotionally expensive, the scheduled shifts at least allow 1-2 days at a time for me to start to reconnect with myself. My immediate post shift ritual consists of a large whiskey and cathartic weeping most days. After that, I’m generally free to be with my family in a way that helps me recapture a sliver of what joy and contentment in my mothering feels like (at least on good days). I still don’t play on the floor, or make up games - but I cook, create things and give really good hugs. #goodenoughmum #437daysleft #deepdeltamidwife2020
What can I say. I’m just really happy to be back in my own clothes and out of scrubs for the next few days. Reclaiming myself, reclaiming my time, reclaiming my fucks. I’ll make a navigation plan for my next placement (high risk OB) over the weekend, but today, this is me. #deepdeltamidwife2020 #squarepegroundhole #reclaimingmyfucks
